I have a list of 34 fragrances I want to own in my collection. It is different from my sampling wishlist: that list includes curiosities, niche references and comparisons that may end with a sample being enough. Every bottle in this article already has, at least on paper, a role I would like to add to my collection.

That does not mean I will blind-buy all 34. Several belong to the same families and compete directly with one another. My goal is to build a varied collection, not accumulate every release simply to complete a line.

Quick answer: the bottles I would add first

If I had to choose a balanced first round, I would start with these ten:

FragranceRole it could cover
Afnan Turathi BlueA versatile citrus fresh scent distinct from my current aquatics
Rasasi Hawas IceA fresh evolution to compare with Hawas Tropical, Elixir and the original Hawas
Dior Homme ParfumA formal, intense iris-led option
Rabanne 1 Million LuckyComplete the comparison with my 1 Million and 1 Million Parfum
French Avenue AetherExpand my modern fresh options with a strong use-to-price proposition
Massimo Dutti Iris IllusionaExplore a quieter, more everyday iris
French Avenue Liquid BrunDetermine whether it deserves space among my cold-weather gourmands
Lorenzo Pazzaglia Summer HammerAdd a more expressive and distinctive summer fragrance
Afnan 9 PM RebelTest a fruitier direction within a family I already know
Tom Ford Vanille FataleOwn a special vanilla only if it clearly differs from my current options

This selection combines genuine gaps, personal comparisons and an aspirational bottle. It is not an absolute ranking: it is the order that would add the most information and variety to my collection.

Four families I want to complete

The clearest pattern in this list is my interest in comparing flankers. I already own Afnan 9pm, Lattafa Asad, Rasasi Hawas Tropical, Hawas Elixir and Armaf Odyssey Mandarin Sky Elixir. The next purchases would therefore not start from zero.

Afnan 9PM: Elixir, Rebel or Night Out

The original 9pm already covers a sweet, night-out role in my collection. The other three interest me because they take the family in different directions:

FlankerQuestion to answer before buying
9PM ElixirDoes it add enough depth over the original?
9 PM RebelDoes its fruitier direction make it more versatile and distinct?
9 PM Night OutIs it the balance that best suits nights out?

I do not need all three to perform almost the same job. I would test them together and buy the one that moves furthest from the original while retaining the identity I enjoy.

Rasasi Hawas: building a family for different weather

I already own two interesting extremes: Hawas Tropical for heat and Hawas Elixir for cold weather. I want to add Hawas for Him, Hawas Ice and Hawas Black to understand the full family, but each should justify its own context.

Hawas for Him would serve as the original DNA reference. Hawas Ice would compete for the fresh, easy-to-wear role. Hawas Black would need enough personality to avoid becoming simply another dark option in a collection that already has several.

Lattafa Asad: Elixir and Bourbon against the original

My Lattafa Asad already works as an intense, affordable cold-weather option. Asad Elixir and Asad Bourbon interest me as evolutions of that idea, but they are exactly the type of purchase where direct comparison prevents redundancy.

Before adding both, I would wear one on each arm alongside the original. The winner would not necessarily be the strongest: it would be the one that provides a genuinely different experience and use case.

Armaf Odyssey: a collection within the collection

The Odyssey line is the largest block on this list. I want to add:

  • Odyssey Dubai Chocolat;
  • Odyssey Homme;
  • Odyssey Mandarin Sky Vintage Edition;
  • Odyssey Go Mango;
  • Odyssey Aqua Edition.

I already own Odyssey Mandarin Sky Elixir, making Vintage Edition the most direct comparison. Aqua and Go Mango have more potential to expand the fresh and fruity side. Homme and Dubai Chocolat would compete in a warmer part of my collection that is already well covered.

Armaf's own official Odyssey collection shows how broad the line has become. For me, choosing representatives with different functions makes more sense than trying to complete it without a clear reason.

The iris triangle: accessible, classic and aspirational

One of the most interesting gaps in my collection is iris. This list contains three ways to explore it:

FragranceRole in the collection
Massimo Dutti Iris IllusionaA quieter iris to discover how often I would wear this profile
Al Wataniah Kayaan ClassicAn accessible and elegant comparison
Dior Homme ParfumThe aspirational, formal and most distinctive bottle

I would not start by buying Dior Homme Parfum. First, I would use Iris Illusiona and Kayaan Classic to verify whether I truly enjoy wearing iris regularly. If the answer is yes, Dior would make more sense as the culmination of that part of the collection.

Massimo Dutti Cherry Story also interests me because it connects with my taste for cherry, but I would not evaluate it as a direct Lost Cherry replacement. Massimo Dutti's own presentation of Cherry Story frames it as a composition with an identity broader than a single note.

Completing 1 Million without buying through nostalgia

I currently own Rabanne 1 Million and 1 Million Parfum. Adding 1 Million Lucky would create a trio with different personalities, but it only makes sense if Lucky becomes a bottle I would wear rather than a display piece.

The same applies to Invictus Parfum. I am interested in it as a recognizable and versatile designer fragrance, although it must compete with my existing fresh scents and Hawas, a family historically associated with that olfactory territory. The important test would be wearing them on different days, not deciding from the opening minutes.

Where redundancy is most likely

My current collection already leans towards vanilla, amber, spices and sweet cold-weather scents. Although I want to own them, I would purchase these more slowly:

  • French Avenue Royal Blend;
  • Tom Ford Vanille Fatale;
  • Armaf Odyssey Dubai Chocolat;
  • Lattafa Mashrabya;
  • Lattafa Raghba;
  • French Avenue Liquid Brun;
  • Zara Antique Brown.

I would also compare Rochas Moustache Eau de Parfum with my elegant cool-weather fragrances. A bottle offering strong value for money does not automatically provide a new use case.

The 34 fragrances in my target collection

This is the complete list, organized by the function each bottle could cover:

  • Rabanne 1 Million Lucky
  • Lattafa Perfumes Raghba

Elegant, iris-led and distinctive bottles

5 fragrances

Fragrances that would add a more formal, refined or distinctive facet to my collection.

  • Massimo Dutti Iris Illusiona
  • Massimo Dutti Cherry Story
  • Rochas Moustache Eau de Parfum
  • Dior Homme Parfum
  • Al Wataniah Kayaan Classic

This is my target collection as of June 2026. Wanting to own a fragrance does not mean I will buy it blind or keep every flanker after comparing them.

My rule for adding a bottle

I want to keep an aspirational list without turning it into impulse purchases. Every fragrance should pass four questions:

  1. Would I wear it at least once a month during its season?
  2. Does it add something that two bottles I own do not already cover?
  3. Do I enjoy it after several hours, not only during the opening?
  4. Would I still want it if it stopped appearing on social media?

For flankers, I would add a fifth: is it my favorite in the family, or do I merely want to complete the set? I do not mind owning several versions when each has a clear role, but I do not want different names that deliver almost the same experience.

Conclusion

This list defines where I want to take my collection: more fresh scents with personality, a serious exploration of iris, several flanker families I enjoy and gourmands chosen with more restraint.

You can see the bottles I already own in my warm and cold weather fragrance collection and the references I still want to evaluate in my 49-fragrance sampling wishlist. I will update this article whenever a fragrance enters the collection, is discarded or changes priority.

I also keep an archive of the 19 fragrances I previously owned, because a new purchase makes more sense when compared with both what remains and what has already left the collection.
